September

Welcome back to all our pupils after the summer holidays. Ms Guerin has left our school to take up a new position in her native cork. We wish her every success in her new role. She is replaced by Ms O'Reilly who will join our staff from October 5th as Learning Support/ Resource teacher, shared with Grange N.S. and Newcastle N.S.

Congratulations to all our pupils who were successful in games and other activities over the summer holidays. A special well done to Alex Purcell, Keith Cronin, Liam Mc Grath, Stefan Wroblewski, Kayleigh Flannery and Eileen Flannery for their achievements.

Our annual st. Michael's mass will be held in Halla na Saoirse on Tuesday next, Sept. 29th at 10.30 a.m. Parents are welcome to attend. Pupils who achieved full attendance last year will be presented with certificates at this mass.

Jersey Day will be held on Friday, October 9th. On this day. pupils and staff members can wear their favoutite jersey and donate €2 to GOAL charity.

Save Our Cents is a recycling scheme which is proving to be quite successful. We ask you to send along unwanted cent coins every Tuesday and Friday to aid the purchase of sport/P.E. equipment for the school. So far, we have been able to buy PE mats and indoor soccer posts for the hall. Soon we hope to purchase basketball posts.

As you know, we hold a Green Flag for environmental work. This scheme will be renewed this year and a lot of work hasto be done to maintain our status. We also recycle clothes, mobile phones and ink cartridges as part of the Green School project.
Please feel free to use our Lenrec recycling bin the staff car park.

Our school jacket [optional] will shortly be available for purchase. This was introduced last year and proved to be very popular. You may view samples at a mutually acceptable time. The cost of the jacket is €30 and we request a deposit of €10 to secure delivery.

In the interest of safety, I kindly ask you not to park on our Bus Bay or block the staff entrance as you drop off/collect your children. Also it is not a safe practice to meet your children at the interior gate leading onto the school yard as staff cars will be leaving the yard at the same time. I ask you to use the pedestrian gate at all times.

It is the policy of our school that children should assemble with their classes on the yard by 9.15 each morning. On wet days, children should make their own way to their classrooms. As we are at all tims endeavouring to develop the pupils' independent skills, we kindly request that parents do not escort their children into their classrooms or remain with them in their classrooms. This policy covers classes from Senior Infants to Sixth.

While we welcome the interest and involvement of parents in our school, we request that meetings with teachers take place by appointment. A phone call to our secretary, KatrĂona, is acceptable to arrange such meetings.

As part of our Healthy Eating policy, we are encouraging our pupils to eat crisps on Fridays only.
.
A full list of school rules will be issued in the near future.

Please note that the school will be closed on Friday, October 2nd for the Lisbon Treaty Referendum.

Junior Infants will be finishing school at 2.00 p.m. as and from Thursday, October 1st.

I wish all the staff members and pupils a happy and successful new school year.

Le meas,
John Walsh,
PrĂomhoide.
